Fine Art Paper & Print Guide

The paper is part of the photograph.

A fine art print is more than an image placed onto paper. The surface, texture, weight and finish of the paper all influence the way a photograph looks and feels.

I use carefully selected papers from the Hahnemühle FineArt collection, chosen for their archival qualities and their ability to reproduce the character, colour, light and atmosphere of each photograph.

My Paper Selection

Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Matt Baryta, 308gsm

The understated, atmospheric choice

A beautiful 100% cotton fine art paper with a soft matte surface and the depth associated with a baryta paper. It produces rich blacks, delicate tonal transitions and excellent detail without the reflections associated with a glossy surface.

I particularly favour this paper for photographs where texture, atmosphere and subtle tonal detail are important. Landscapes, architecture, forests and quieter, more timeless images can work especially well on its softer surface.

The result is a print with a refined, almost tactile quality that encourages you to look closely rather than simply catching the light from across a room.

Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Baryta, 315gsm

The rich, vivid and detailed choice

A smooth baryta fine art paper selected when a photograph benefits from greater depth, contrast and visual impact. Its surface allows rich blacks, vibrant colour and exceptional fine detail to come through beautifully.

I particularly like it for photographs featuring dramatic skies, strong colour, architecture, city scenes and reflections, where the additional depth of the paper can help bring the image to life.

It has a more pronounced surface presence than a matte paper, giving certain photographs a deeper and more contemporary feel.

The Paper Is Chosen For You

You do not need to decide which paper is right for your photograph. I make that decision when preparing each print, considering the image itself, its tones, colours, contrast and overall character.

My aim is simple: to use the paper that best complements the photograph and allows it to look its best as a finished piece of artwork.

Available Sizes

A4 · 210 × 297mm

A versatile format that works beautifully in smaller spaces, on shelves and desks, or as part of a collection of prints. A4 is also a great choice for creating a curated gallery wall from several photographs.

A3+ · 329 × 483mm

A larger, more substantial format designed to give the photograph greater presence. A3+ is particularly suited to images intended to become a focal point within a room.

Every Print Is Finished With Care

Each print is produced individually and inspected before it leaves the studio. Your photograph is printed with a defined border, giving the finished piece a clean presentation and allowing the image to sit naturally within a frame.

Prints are supplied unframed and carefully packaged flat to help ensure they arrive in excellent condition.

Each print is also signed by me, making it a personal piece of artwork rather than simply a photographic reproduction.

I want every JTP Print to feel considered from the moment it is printed to the moment it is displayed. The paper, finish, border and presentation are all part of that process.
